Cincinnati Five-Way Chili Recipe – The dish is called The Five Way because of the five distinct layers usually served on a large platter. The first layer is a large helping of spaghetti.
The next layer is ladles of Cincinnati chili. Next comes a layer of kidney beans. Chopped onions are piled over the beans. The entire dish is then crowned with lots of grated cheese, usually Cheddar.

Cook and stir turkey in medium saucepan over medium heat for 5 minutes or until well browned.
Drain fat and discard.
Then add ½ cup of onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes or until onion is tender.
Add tomato sauce, water, chili powder, cocoa, vinegar, cinnamon, allspice, paprika, bay leaf and cloves, and bring to a boil.
Then reduce heat and let simmer for 15 minutes while covered, stirring occasionally.
If thicker consistency is desired, simmer uncovered for another 5 to 10 minutes.
Then remove bay leaf (and discard), and season to taste with salt and pepper.
Serve spaghetti into bowls and spoon sauce over top of spaghetti and sprinkle with remaining ½ cup of onion, cheese and beans. And enjoy!
